Now it’s time for you to learn how to tap these wonderful trees and process their sap into syrup. However, this tree has almost as large of a natural growth range as the Red Maple. It is possible to get a pretty good syrup out of a Silver Maple, but this is the least desirable of the four due to its low sugar content, early Spring growth, and tendency for its sap to evaporate leaving an abundance of sugar sand. Specifically, this tree can grow as far north as Nova Scotia, as far south as Florida and as far west as Minnesota and Texas. It does not have as high of sugar content as the Sugar and Black maples, but this tree makes quality syrup and grows just about anywhere! No other hardwood can thrive in such a wide variety of conditions, which makes it a great tree for making syrup. It does not appear to grow much on the east coast of the United States. It grows between southeastern Quebec over to central Wisconsin and south to Tennessee. 14 Types of Maple Tree Species (Other Names for Maple Trees) In lawns, parks, and along roadways, maple trees are among the most popular ornamental trees. The Black Maple also produces sap with high sugar content and has a late growth in the Spring, but it has a smaller natural range than the Sugar Maple. It can thrive in a variety of soil conditions, but does not tolerate extremely wet or dry sites. The Sugar Maple occurs naturally in southeastern Canada and the northeastern United States (as far west as Minnesota and as far south as Tennessee). It is also preferred for its late growth in the Spring. This is the most preferred tree for making maple syrup, not surprisingly for its high sugar content. In the meantime, see below for an introduction to the four most common syrup making maples. To identify which types of maple trees you have, even in the winter, we suggest you find a reputable source which provides color pictures of the trees’ leaves, bark, fruit, and twigs/buds. We suggest you make a map of your property in the summer when trees are most easily identified, so when tapping season (usually mid-February through mid-March) comes around, you are prepared. The four types of maple trees commonly used for syrup production in North America are the Sugar, Black, Red, and Silver maples. Giant maple trees with over a 27 inch diameter can be tapped 3 times. Maple trees with a 12 to 20 inch diameter cannot be tapped more than once, but trees with a 21 to 27 inch diameter can be tapped twice. Make sure it’s a healthy tree, free of disease or damage. Trees provide oxygen to the environment Trees provide shade and shelter Trees mark the seasons, spring, summer, fall, and winter. To get started, you will need at least one mature maple that is 12 inches in diameter or more. There are over 20,000 different kinds of trees in the world. The very latest development appears to be this LegacyExtender announced by the same member takeos that appears two posts above me here. He directs us to with specific code examples here. There, member steelbytes has reported some success in patching already compiled apps and also recompiling differently. The discussion includes links which eventually get you to the next pertinent System Internals thread: EXEs created by VisualStudio2008 vs Win4.0. Those utilities of course are the excellent System Internals applications: Process Explorer, AutoRuns and no doubt everything that Mark Russinovich (System Internals / Microsoft) gets around to updating.įolks can look back to to follow events as they happened on this System Internals thread: Process Explorer v11.12 on Windows 9x/Me. Some of the most important utilities for Win9x sadly went toe-up several months ago when the author began compiling with Visual Studio 2008. Seeing that this thread has been revived, now is a good time to throw some information on the table. It's not true that the checksum is not checked by Windows, it is necessary to be correct for some drivers and boot DLLs, and you never know if Microsoft or some antivirus software decide to be more strict against binaries with bad checksums in the future. Unlike some patches it also recalculates the checksum. The second thing that Legacy Extender does is like EditVersion.exe (once provided by Microsoft): it has a command line tool to edit the subsystem version (Visual Studio writes 5.0, but you want it to be 4.0 to run on systems older than Windows 2000). The library approach also has the benefit of being compatible with code optimization. Legacy Extender includes a linkable library which takes care about all of these. Legacy Extender for Visual Studio 2005/2008 (Visual Studio references not only functions which do not exist in old Windows, but also some functions which exist, but which do not work (like Unicode functions in Windows 95). There are actually some patches, but here is what I think may be a better approach: Would be nice if someone could make a patcher to "fix" files compiled in vc2008 to work on win98. But assuming you’re playing a game that allows this type of move, let me give you a simple scenario where this move could come in handy. Basically, for those versions of the game, once a card is in one of the foundation piles, it is locked into place. However, some online games do not allow this. One additional strategy that is often overlooked is that you can strategically move cards from the foundation piles back to the tableau. If you have the option of using a card from the tableau or a card form the stock pile, you will almost always want to use the tableau card. The basic strategy in this classic card game is to uncover your turned over cards as soon as possible. Unlike the tableau, foundation piles are built in ascending order (i.e., Ace, 2, 3, etc) and by the same suit (so for example, only diamonds are allowed in one of the 4 foundation piles). As soon as you find an Ace, you immediately move it to a foundation pile. There are 4 foundation piles (initially empty), one for each suit of Ace. On the tableau, cards are arranged in descending order (meaning King, Queen, Jack, 10, etc) in alternating color (e.g. In Classic Solitaire, there are 2 main sets of rules: So now that everything is laid out on the game board appropriately, you can begin playing. Most games give you an unlimited number of redeals which is the default in this game, though you can configure the number of redeals in the game preferences. Also, in some versions of classic/klondike, the number of times you can go through the stock pile is limited. On the Classic Solitaire site, you can choose to deal 1 card at a time or 3, whatever you want. However, many (and possibly even most) online solitaire games let you deal 1 card at a time, making the game friendlier and easier to win. The traditional rules of classic solitaire generally have you deal 3 cards at a time from the stock, where only the top most card is playable at any given time. These cards will be used for the stock pile. If you are playing by hand, after you have placed the appropriate number of cards on the tableau piles, you will have cards left over. Of course, if you’re playing on the Classic Solitaire site, all of this is taken care of for you automatically when you start a new game. You repeat this process until you’ve placed your last face up card on the 7th tableau stack. On the next go round, you place a face-up card on tableau stack #2, then 5 more face down cards on the remaining stacks. For the tableau, begin by dealing the first card up then place 6 more cards face down (for a grand total of 7 stacks on the main playing area (the tableau)). If you are playing by hand, you start by shuffling your deck of cards fully, then start building the tableau. Initially, the foundation piles and the discard pile will be empty. the discard pile (also known as the talon).Though you might not have heard these terms before, a game of classic is composed of the following items: The layout of the card game table is fairly straightforward. Classic Solitaire OverviewĬlassic Solitaire (known only as simply “Solitaire” by some, and “Klondike Solitaire” by others) is a crazy popular card game that is won by moving all cards in a single deck from the tableau to the foundation piles. Unfortunately, ODS and Toontown Rewritten have been in a bit of a slowdown, though Toontown Rewritten has had Valentoon's on and I assume ODS does too. Welcome back to the next issue! It has been a bit slower this time but there have been some updates in places, so let's see When we open up about struggles we are dealing with in our lives, as Abuela does at the end of “Encanto,” we become more relatable and accessible to others. Many people worry that they will be judged negatively if they reveal any imperfections, but the opposite is often true. Instead of denying the cracks in the foundations on which we stand, we can admit that there are cracks and allow ourselves to look at them with curiosity. We have agency and can have some influence over how our lives unfold. The future is more than just our past fears repeating themselves. When we come into more adult, present-moment consciousness, we learn that we don’t have to take fears from the past and project them into the future. These patterns can shift in your life too. But this pattern is not healthy or authentic for the family members who participate in it, and thanks to Mirabel’s determination to tell the truth, the pattern in the Madrigal family finally begins to shift. Subsequent generations have gone along with this, upholding the image of family perfection and hiding their vulnerability and imperfections, because this is what it takes to feel loved and accepted in the Madrigal family. She can’t tolerate her fear of what would happen if the community knew about the trauma in the family’s past, so she keeps it a secret. The patterns in the family have their origins in Abuela’s fears from the past, which she is projecting into the future. The Madrigals are an example of a family in which trauma is passed down from generation to generation. Interrupting The Transmission Of Intergenerational Trauma Abuela sings: “The miracle is you, not some gift, just you… All of you.” Each person is to be valued not for their gifts, which is a form of objectification, but for who they are as people-three-dimensional people with weaknesses and imperfections that just go along with the territory of being human. The lyrics of the final song in the movie show how Abuela’s perspective has changed by the story’s end. Authentic connection begins to happen, and Abuela can now appreciate Mirabel just for being herself. Nothing will ever be broken that we can’t fix together.” With this new understanding of the trauma in the family’s past and of the reasons why they have been acting as they have been, the family dynamic that had been initiated by the oldest member of the family, and kept going by subsequent generations, finally shifts. Mirabel is able to see her grandmother with more understanding and compassion now, thanks to her revelation of the truth of her past, and Mirabel responds with kindness to Abuela, saying, “We were saved because of you, given a miracle because of you. The Power Of Allowing The Family’s Trauma To Be Known Because of her new awareness, Abuela starts to collapse into blaming herself for everything, for creating all the family’s problems. But Abuela now realizes the harm she is causing to her family. By imposing impossible standards of perfection, she had been trying to protect the family from the suffering and pain she had experienced during an earlier part of her life when she lost her husband and her home. As Abuela explodes with rage at Mirabel for speaking to her this way, the house finally cracks apart and crumbles, and Mirabel runs away.Ībuela goes after Mirabel, and when she finds her, Abuela finally reveals the trauma in her past that has caused her to behave the way she has been behaving with her family. Abuela seems only to value her granddaughters for the gifts they possess and the feats they can perform. Abuela’s unreasonable expectations are the cause of the problem. She puts the responsibility back on Abuela, telling her that the way Abuela treats the family is the reason the house is cracking apart and the magic is dying. When Abuela blames her for everything that is wrong, Mirabel stands up for herself. She puts Mirabel down in front of the others and turns her into a scapegoat, blaming her for everything that is wrong, even the cracks appearing in the house. Though Mirabel is telling the truth about the cracks in the house, Abuela accuses Mirabel of making it all up. Mirabel continues trying to save the Madrigal family, trying to anticipate everyone else’s needs and to be helpful, to be there for everybody. Let’s pick up where we left off in our analysis of the Encanto generational trauma. With Star Wars moving to Disney, the classic fanfare is now gone. Then composer John Williams crafted the classic main theme of Star Wars in the same key as the 20th Century Fox fanfare. In fact, Lucas used the CinemaScope version of the fanfare, which was a few seconds longer and allowed for the LucasFilm logo to be included. In 1977 the logo and fanfare shot into iconic status as director George Lucas insisted that it play before the beginning of Star Wars. Since 1994, the logo has gone through a few cosmetic changes, but has relatively stayed as it is today. This original matte-painting style logo stood as the standard logo until 1994, when a CGI logo was created. with accompanying fanfare by Alfred Newman. This iconic production company logo was created in the mid-1930s by special effects animator Emil Kosa, Jr. We’ll look at the originals and the present day logo stingers, and give you a little history on “who, when, and how” they were created. Since these logos are pretty epic, let’s take a look at the history of some of our favorite production company intros. For instance, the 20th Century Fox logo fanfare that has played in front of Star Wars for nearly 40 years will come to an end very soon… but that fanfare is firmly engrained in the subconscious of millions of fans. Let’s take a look at exactly how they changed and how some have become iconic.įor many of us, the logo fanfares that play at the front of our favorite films are nearly as special as the films themselves.
